Story

Jumping for Mo!

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Myself and my sister in-law Debbie have taken on this challenge inspired to help raise more awareness for the Alzheimer's Society and for my beautiful mother in-law who sadly has this frightening disease. This is such a cruel and heart-breaking illness for not only the patient but for family and friends too.

Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

There are so many aspects to the illness that people are not aware of, apart from "forgetting", aggression, confusion and being scared, to name just a few. A person with Alzheimer's doesn't understand why they have help, because in their mind, they still can manage. They become anxious and scared of life, they cannot cope with lots of people and new people coming into their lives, which makes care very hard to put in place.

With Alzheimer's there is only one conclusion currently, people do not recover, they cannot get better sadly only deteriorate, your loved one disappears in front of you, becoming a shell of their former being, not always recognising you. However, in the midst of this, there are moments of clarity, laughter and happiness, and those times are extremely precious moments. You have to learn to adjust to be able to cope, life is about living for the current moment, having fun times, and when my mother in-laws eyes light up and she laughs and is happy, it makes the heartache diminish a little, the most important thing is that she is happy and feels safe. You cannot dwell on the past, you have to concentrate on living for the moment and making the most of what you have now, life is precious.

Myself and Debbie are both absolutely petrified of heights, climbing a ladder is even a monumental task!! However, this challenge arose from a jovial moment of egging each other on, we had decided on a trek ......... but then we decided "why not" we were "up for the challenge", why not do something completely out of both our comfort zones, to raise money for this amazing charity, by jumping out of a plane........ eek!

One day it hopefully will be possible to have a cure or prevention for this awful disease, and the only way is by fundraising so more research can be carried out. We would do anything to stop this terrible illness and the devastation it has on the patient and those close. So we ask please to donate to our scary but exciting challenge, every donation helps with research and support for a future without Alzheimer's.

Thank you so much for you support.
