Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In October 18 I completed my first marathon in Chester, 2 days later whilst I was still struggling to walk I was offered a place in the London Marathon to run and raise money for Royal Voluntary Service.  Some may say I was mad but it was a really easy decision - YES PLEASE!!  I dare say there will be times over winter when it is cold, dark and wet when I will be questioning my enthusiasm but knowing the money I will raising will helping the projects I work on every day will keep me going, and the people we support will inspire me to keep going as they did with my training for Chester.

So far in 2018 I have nearly run 1000 km a challenge in itself! So I have dusted off the training plan, well it is still warm and started running again this evening - so bring it on.  I may be giving the impression that I am an experienced runner but my first ever half marathon was last year - I just cannot say no to a challenge!!

I have again chosen to run for Royal Voluntary Service as the projects I work on and the people I support through this work really benefit from the support they receive.  I now have 8 Chair Based exercise classes a week running in the Morecambe Bay Area, supported by wonderful volunteers, helping people to stay independent by keeping fit.  I also train volunteers to deliver Chair based exercises as part of the On Ward Service.  When an older person is admitted into hospital they can lose 1-5% of muscle strength per day while in a hospital bed, so it is really important that we help to support our NHS colleagues to keep patients moving and exercising to help them remain independent.

Your donations will go directly to help support these projects by helping to purchase more equipment to help enable more classes to be set up and to make the exercises more enjoyable.  These include balls, resistance bands, batons, maracas and pom poms.

Thank you for reading this and hopefully for supporting me and Royal Voluntary Service.
