Story
My mother in law Liz had been like a mum to me since I joined the family and more so since the passing of my own Mum in 2016. She had the worst of times over the last 2 years and has now sadly passed away 15/9/22.
In the backdrop of COVID my father in law Anthony was diagnosed with a brain tumour in March 2021 we were left speechless. Liz throughout was a tower of strength and whilst we all pulled together to support Anthony little did we know she was fighting her own undiagnosed cancer battle.
Misdiagnosed for months as DVT Liz eventually received the devastating news she had a 27cm long sarcoma in her left calf. At the time it hadn't spread so she bravely opted for amputation. She lost her leg and then her husband within the space of a month from December to January just gone.
Liz was a fighter. She was up literally hopping around in days post surgery. Despite everything she was focused on recovery and started the long road to walking again as soon as was possible to be fitted with a prosthetic. The doctors were really optimistic about her adapting fully to life without a limb. She then went for the followup CT scan that showed the cancer had spread to her lungs and her spine.
At this point there was no more fighting to be done. We were left heartbroken. Raising money and raising awareness is the only thing in my power left against the Big C which has taken both Liz and Anthony this year. I am raising money specifically for Sarcoma UK to honour Liz.
Sarcoma UK is a national charity that funds vital research, offers support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer and campaigns for better treatments. Sarcoma is a type of cancer that develops in the bone and soft tissue. It is difficult to diagnose and one of the hardest to treat. By supporting me, we can help change this. Your donation will help researchers find answers, keep our Support Line open, and raise awareness to improve treatment and standards of care. Thank you for your support.
