Story
I lost a good
friend last year to cancer, I have always accepted the life cycle, never
fearing death, but since the passing of Nick I have looked at things a little
different. This was the first time I saw the effect that cancer has on
not just the person who has to deal with the disease and go through the painful treatment but the pain the family and friends also endure watching the person they care for suffer and deal with the loss.
Nick was the life and sole and always had a smile. He had a good social life with a large group of friends and family who I know miss him terribly
I wanted to do something for him and to show his family who were robbed of decades of his life, that he was awesome and will never be forgotten. So I set myself the biggest challenge that I could think of (or at least what I was capable of) so I am set to cycle from John O’Groats to Lands End. That is a minimum of 1000 miles from end to end. Both myself and Joe Clark who is raising money for the same charity on behalf of another good friend we lost last year Mandy Welcher, plan to
leave on the 16th June and complete the journey in 8 days averaging
125 miles per day
This may not appear that much of a big deal to some but this is for me. We will be climbing up and down hills for the full 8 days. We will not have a support vehicle, so everything for the journey will have to be carried on the bikes adding to the intensity of effort required. We don’t know what the weather will be like and we won’t know how many miles we can do on each day so we will not know where we will be staying each night all adding to the complexity
It’s going to be tough.
So can you please donate as much as you can as this horrible disease which affects millions each day
To Nick who we will always miss, To Mandy who will be in our hearts, To Sarah who is battling as we speak and to John who beat cancer and can give us all hope
