I recently attended a charity event by Saba Relief, a non-political UK-registered charity that is exclusively focused on supporting the needy in Yemen. I was moved by the plight of the Yemeni people and horrified by the lack of concern from the international community.

The war in Yemen has been dubbed the “ignored crisis”. 

Here are some basic facts about the Yemen crisis:

-  An estimated 14.4 million are food insecure; 

-  19.3 million lack access to clean water 

-  320,000 are acutely malnourished. 

-  250,000 children face death within months from malnutrition and lack of proper food, water, and sanitation in Yemen.

-  2.5 million people are internally displaced (as of 31st December 2015) 

-  An estimated 2.7 million people are now in need of support to secure shelter, food, water, and essential household supplies.

The political situation is chaotic and a solution to the problem seems distant. However, each and every one of us has the ability to relieve some of the suffering.
