Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page the Big Walk of 23-mile walk from Doncaster to Stocksbridge.
In memory of Alex, mummy to Oliver Cole, daughter to Denise and the late Chris, sister to Kimberley, auntie to Lexi and Aubree and an amazing friend to everyone.
Sadly, in October 2020 our lives changed, Alex died suddenly as the result of ruptured stomach ulcers. Prior to this, Alex battled with mental illness in various forms and fought her demons every day for her son Oliver- her world. Unfortunately, Alex hid most of her anxieties, depression and illness from everyone, including friends and family and suffered in silence- something that continues to break our hearts daily. Alex always checked in on people and made sure they were ok, yet ignored her own need to reach out and get help.
Mental illness comes in all shapes and sizes and affects people in so many different ways. In this rapidly changing world, more needs to be done. Mental illness needs to be recognised and people need to know that it's ok to ask for help. Mental illness not only affects the individual suffering it affects those around them and more needs to be understood.
As a result of our heartbreaking loss, we wanted to do something to highlight the importance of getting help for yourself or others, like we wish we had done for Alex. Alex loved creating events and working with charities, so this is our thank you back to her- for touching our hearts and making us smile and for simply having an amazing soul. Those who knew her were touched by her sparkling personality and we hope her memories can live on every day. Alex, we love you.
