UPDATE

It's done. Thank you so much everyone. I started at 5.30 yesterday morning and got to the height of Everest at 8848m just before 5.30pm. It took me 11 hours and 52 mins. It was unlike anything I have done before and the memory of the nausea will stay with me for a long time! I am so delighted to have done it and that the fundraising has gone so well. I have had amazing support and am enormously grateful, with particular thanks to my family for putting up with me and to Ben, Olly and Stephen, who all did sections of the ride with me. Thank you.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 5th July 2020, I am going to be vEveresting - a single bike ride with 8,848m of vertical ascent. I am riding the challenge on Zwift (a virtual cycling world) owing to the current lockdown. On the hill I have chosen, this will be approximately 256km in one ride. I am aiming to do this in under 12 hours and have been training extensively for it since January this year. It is probably one of the hardest one day challenges that there is in cycling.

I wasn't going to raise money for charity initially, but the Polycystic Kidney Disease charity is a cause which is very close to my heart. My wonderful Mum, Vanessa Lacey, suffered from this disease and it contributed to her sudden death on 11th June 2018. I feel her loss every single day.

She did a huge amount for the charity whilst she was alive to raise public awareness of this serious hereditary disease which over time causes a decrease in kidney (and sometimes liver) function owing to the growth of cysts on those organs.

It feels right that I should raise money for this charity in memory of my Mum. Anything that you are able to give will be very much appreciated and thank you in advance.

About the charity

The PKD charity provides information and support to patients and families affected by polycystic kidney disease, funds research into discovering possible treatments and raises awareness of PKD, providing information to patients, the public, the medical community and the media.
