Story
On the 15th of August I set off from my house in Stoke on Trent with the aim of travelling to Hvar Island, Croatia, on foot. With the assistance of a few ferries along the way I hope to make it there through a combination of running and walking by mid November.
Hvar Island is a special place for me. A stunning island on the Adriatic Coast, it was also a place where I had some mental health difficulties 6 years ago. Through the help of family, friends and professionals I now feel able to cope much better and able to take on a challenge such as this.
I would like to use this adventure as a way of raising funds and awareness of a Stoke on Trent based organisation called the Maccas Project. This is a project that, through North Staffs Mind, is a project that is aimed at supporting young mens’ mental health in the local area, in particular, aiming to tackle the alarming rate of suicide amongst young men.
The money raised will go to North Staffs Mind and will be ringfenced for the Maccas Project. The money will go towards;
-Awareness campaigns in local schools, colleges, youth centres, pubs, clubs and sporting facilities.
- A befriending/peer mentoring service for young males in distress.
-The facilitation of consultations groups to influence the running of the project and how it works.
- Inform young males about mental health support options.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated. Funds will go directly to North Staffs Mind and not my bread and croissant fund.
I am aiming to raise £2100, the number of kms between Stoke and Hvar according to google maps.
