Story

Leasowe WI are raising funds to enable them to replace a Defibrillator upgrade in their local community of Wallasey Village.

For many years our member Christiane Ambler had been trying to obtain a Defibrillator for the outside wall of the Wallasey Village United Reformed Church in Wirral and in 2025 was able to get one free via North West Ambulance Service and we were very grateful.

The Defibrillator then required a heated, wall mounted cabinet to house the Life Pack. This was expensive, as it needed to be secure and heated to protect against sub-zero temperatures and have the necessary electrical installation and we were successful in raising the £400 plus needed and it was mounted on the outside wall of the church to serve the community and on 16 October 2025, Wirral Mayor, Brian Kenny formally announced that it was open for business. Since then, we have had Wirral First Responders train the local community and latterly on 16 May 2026 we had 60 people turn up for a training event we organised and raised awareness on CPR and using the Defibrillator and everyone who attended thought it was excellent to have a Defibrillator on the church wall to save a life.

Sadly, Leasowe WI have now discovered that this Defibrillator needs to be upgraded by 1 May 2027 for it to be able to accept the necessary new batteries and the pads required so we are now fundraising again for a new defibrillator and have reached out to the AEDdonate Charity to assist us, They have generously donated £300.00 from their funding pot to get us started, but we need to raise the outstanding balance of £778.80 and this is our target to replace the current Defibrillator and by May 2027 and we need to reach our target with your help.

Many thanks for reading about our LWI project and we hope that you might be able to help us.
