Story
On the 27th March 2020 Lyall and Bryn came into our world a lot earlier than we expected at 32 weeks gestation.
On that morning I woke up due to acute shoulder pain. I started to become extremely faint so we headed to St James hospital to be monitored. Unbeknownst to everyone I had developed a rare type of preeclampsia called HELLP syndrome overnight and my liver was haemorrhaging large quantities of blood.
Lyall and Bryn were born by emergency c-section at 11.10am. The boys had kept me alive by applying pressure on my liver, preventing me from bleeding out. Unfortunately, due to the complications of HELLP syndrome, Bryn was without oxygen for 20 minutes but was resuscitated by the amazing neonatal team.
Bryn spent the next 2 days on a specialist ventilator equipment whilst the doctors and nurses at St James did everything they could for him. During this time I was placed into a coma to recover from the damage to my liver. I got to meet both my boys for the first time on Sunday 29th March, at which point Bryn passed away in my arms, next to his brother, with Finn by our side.
Bryn had so much fight in him and showed so much love and courage in the short time he was with us.
I find it hard to put into words how much I love them both, how proud I am of my beautiful boys and how much we miss Bryn.
We would like to raise funds to buy a piece of equipment for the neonatal unit in Bryn's honour so that another baby and family might benefit and Bryn's name will live on. Hopefully Bryn will then not have just saved my life but the lives of others too.
We can't thank the neonatal team enough for doing everything they could for Bryn and for making it possible for me to meet my boys when I was in the ICU, despite this breaking the COVID restriction policies in place at the time.
