James' Story:
In early 2015 my Dad popped along to his GP about a stye on his eye. His GP was shocked that Dad hadn't been to the doctors in a long time, and bearing in mind his age (70), he was long overdue a full body MOT.
Results revealed Dad had prostate cancer that had slightly spread into the bone. This was a shock, as he had no obvious symptoms before.
He started hormone therapy treatment to suppress testosterone, which is what the cancer will thrive on. This treatment involved a quarterly injection and one or two daily tablets.
He was still working and looking after the grandkids. Not much had changed on the face of it, and after the initial shock we all felt very optimistic. Time horizons were discussed, and somewhere in the region of 5 to 10 years was a possibility.
A year later and Dad was experiencing a few aches and pains. At the end of May 2016, Dad had a routine scan which revealed the cancer had spread and was compressing his spinal cord. Following radiotherapy and physio, he was on his way back to himself when in September his leg gave way. It broke due to the disease spreading into the leg.
After further treatment including more radiotherapy, in November it was discovered that the disease had spread to his skull. He was no longer strong enough to cope with treatment, and sadly passed away on December 14th 2016.

The reason for the detail is to highlight how devastating this disease is. He went from completely normal amazing Dad and Pops, to incredibly poorly in a very short space of time.

1 in 8 men WILL get this disease! As if that's not bad enough already, incidence rates for prostate cancer are projected to rise by 12% in the UK by 2035. Check out Prostate Cancer UK's website for more info, how to spot signs, and how to help loved ones!

We miss you Dad, and if climbing these three mountains raises enough cash to help just one person, I know you'd be proud xo
