Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.

Story

The Pennine way 2020 for Sepsis trust.org

I'm walking the Pennine Way solo to raise money and awareness for Sepsis trust.org

What is the Pennine way?

The Pennine Way National Trail is a 268 mile (429 Km) walking route from Edale in Derbyshire to Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish Borders.

So why the Sepsis trust?

In 2018  someone I was very close to lost someone she was very close to from Sepsis following a routine operation.

Up until then I hadn't really known what sepsis was or how many people it affected.

Every 3 seconds someone in the world dies from Sepsis.

In the UK alone approx 245,000 people are affected by Sepsis every year with at least 48,000 people losing their lives. This is more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer combined.

Globally sepsis claims 11 million lives every year yet for most patients with early diagnosis it is easily treatable

Sepsis doesn't discriminate, it can effect anyone and In this day and age no one expects to die from blood poisoning.
