Millie for Mayhew (+ Missy)

Simplyhealth Great North Run 2019 · 8 September 2019 ·
I have been running (on and off) for around 5 years, since the age of 14. I used to take part in cross country at school and loved a good sprint on sports day! (Easy to say now!) I was supposed to do the Manchester Half-Marathon in 2016, however, due to family illness I was unable to take part.
Now, in 2019 and at the age of 19, I am taking on the Great North Run Half-Marathon and fundraising for the animal charity Mayhew.
Mayhew's work encourages people to change their attitudes and behaviours towards animals in a positive way. Over the last 17 years, (so whilst I was still an irritating toddler) Mayhew have been the leaders in a community focused projects to address the causes of animal neglect, cruelty, abandonment and overpopulation.
I have always had a love for animals, from fundraising for the RSPCA at the age of 12 to owning my own. Unfortunately, in December 2018, our family dog Missy passed away. This hit us hard, as she was loved so very much. So I shall be doing the Great North Run for Missy, whilst also fundraising money to ensure Mayhew's dogs and cats can be loved just as much as we loved her.
