Story
I have always been pretty shy when I was younger and didn’t really want to take about myself, but I have decided to change that this year for one main reason.
I basically couldn’t breathe probably for the first week of my life and ended up staying in ICU for a week till I finally managed to breathe on my own. By the age of six, I started getting multiple ear infections and a completely blocked nose. So I had to breathe through my mouth only. By the age of 10, I have already had 3 surgeries on my ears and nose. My ears are fine now, but my nose is almost fully blocked, but I am getting surgery soon!
Anyway, fast forward to this year, I finally got correctly diagnosed with PCD (Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia). It basically means my cilia don’t move fast enough so I have to force mucus out by coughing, physiotherapy, or exercise. After hearing this, I did an Xray on my chest and realised that the right top part of my lung is completely destroyed. That’s when I decided to get this tattoo to highlight to myself that I could still run, cycle, and do everything I want really without being limited by this disease.
I decided to run the London Marathon this year with @asthmaandlunguk. to help people who might have similar breathing issues including my sister, who also suffers from PCD.
