Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My mum’s 70 mile journey will begin at Ellesmere Port where her and her brother, Julian, will follow the Shropshire Union Canal network back to the Mermaid pub in Wolverhampton. They’ll aim to complete the journey within 4 or 5 days.
Travelling alongside them on their journey will be me (her daughter Hannah) and my boyfriend Matt who, from our barge, will provide motivation, support, a bed at night, and of course those all important cups of tea! Both myself and Matt will be keeping everyone up to date with mum’s progress on Facebook via live videos, photos and write-ups as well as passing on any motivational comments or messages to my mum and Julian.
We don’t expect it to be an easy journey, and that’s one of the reasons why it was something we had to do. Nicola’s Walk is a small reflection of the journey our family has struggled with since my mum was diagnosed last year with early on-set dementia and Alzheimer's disease. As a family, we have had to deal with a lot in the past, but this really has been tough. With this walk, we really want to raise as much money as we can for Alzheimer's Society to help fund more research into the disease, so that hopefully in the future, someone else's family won’t have to go through what we are.
Also, if you would like to join in with mum and Julian at any point along the route to help motivate and support them you are more than welcome! Whether it’s walking alongside for a mile or joining in with a tea break, we will keep you up to date with where each checkpoint is via our Facebook page.
