Nigel Bowen, Siôn Bowen and Marc-Rhys Davies Take On The Global Adventure Three Peaks Challenge (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon)

Hi all,

In 2018 I was diagnosed as being borderline diabetic. A year later after a lot of healthy eating and exercise I have managed to overcome the problem and to recognise the fact I decided that I would like to challenge myself by taking on one of the Global Adventure challenges, namely the UK 3 peaks challenge. Starting in Scotland we will first scale Ben Nevis followed straight away by Scafell Pike, Cumbria (hiking through the night). The following morning we will complete our final trek scaling the highest mountain in Wales Mount Snowdon. The 3 peaks in under 30 hours. This year I had my 70th birthday and very soon my son Siôn 50 this year and grandson Marc-Rhys 30 this year decided they would like to join me. Although they have now moved out of the area they are keen to raise money for the health care where they grew up. This sounded good to me 3 generations, 3 peaks and 3 0’s. It was decided unanimously that we would like to raise money for a local cause. Our choice was an easy one as we have a new health centre opening in Aberaeron in September which is when we shall be doing the challenge. After consulting with the local surgery it was agreed that what would be most useful to the new Integrated Care Centre and also to the local and surrounding area would be a Doppler machine. The Doppler equipment assists to timely diagnosis to peripheral arterial by performing a TBPI test. The TBPI test has been proven to provide more accurate information and helps to identify the patients that need onward referral to the vascular team, and will benefit those patients in our area. With this machine available locally, a larger proportion of individuals would have access to accurately diagnose, appropriately refer with all information providing information for prompt triaging. Individuals would be able to access this through their local GP surgeries or podiatry teams. So it will also be available to surgeries in the surrounding area. We would love to be able to provide the £2,500 needed to fund this equipment and are grateful for every donation we receive. This equipment will be based at the new Integrated Care Centre at Aberaeron but will also benefit patients from other surgeries in the area. Thanks Nigel, Siôn and Marc-Rhys
