Story
Addie Brady lost her battle to cancer on 1st February 2018. She was just 16 years old. Her story began in 2011 when she was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. Surgery and several months of chemo saw Addie recover and she returned to a relatively normal life. However, five years later in 2016, Addie was rushed into hospital following a seizure, tests later revealed Addie had a high grade inoperable brain tumour. More shockingly, the brain tumour was a primary cancer unrelated to the first cancer. Genetic testing revealed Addie had Li-Fraumeni Syndrome (LFS), usually an inherited familial predisposition to the disease.
Addie’s family want to honour their “brave and beautiful” Addie by setting up a foundation in her name to boost research into high grade brain tumours and better treatments for brain cancer. They are currently working with the Brain Tumour Charity to achieve this.
Addie was an extraordinary young girl, with a big heart and an even bigger smile. Addie’s parents hope Addie’s lionheart legacy will live on, helping and supporting others in the fight against cancer.
Alan Baines lost his battle to a Brain Tumour known as 'Glioblastoma' within only 4 months from diagnosis, a tumour that is becoming more common and yet again requires more important research. Alan became a great friend of mine and was always such a wonderful man to talk to whether at Kaiser Chiefs shows or lavishing in the surroundings of Brasserie Zedel or jumping into the kitchen with the chefs at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen looking for a proper Yorkshire pudding!!
20% of Cancer related deaths under the
age of 40 are from Brain Tumours however, this only receives 2% of the overall spend on
cancer research.
