Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page..

According to recent research commissioned in the national press, the best age to start marathon running is 28...So in an attempt to buck this popular trend and as a late starter, I am training for my first event aged '54'

Let me share with you...Marathon training is a challenge...though when I applied through the ballot in those long ago balmy summer days, I thought it would be a delight...It transpires, I am no athlete, but according to a recent pharmacy visit I do have athletic feet.

So why am I running?

I am a trained first aider and for some time as a 'Juniors' RFU coach I tended to the relatively frequent scrapes and bruises of players.

During 2017, my basic first aiding skills were put to greater test than ever previously when on two separate occasions, I found myself giving 'CPR' to people who had suffered from major heart attacks. David on his driveway during April as he was preparing to leave home for work, and Pierre during September on a beach for the first day of his early Autumn holiday.  My aim is to try to raise a few hundred pounds to help support research into coronary artery disease, whilst equally hoping to raise awareness and have more people trained in basic first aid skills.

None of us know when we might either need the help of others, or be in a position to try to help in an emergency situation. I know very well that sometimes your best efforts are not enough to save lives, I hope therefore that whatever financial support I am able to raise through this challenge will make a difference to the lives and outcomes for others.

Any commitment you can make to help me with this challenge will be very gratefully received.
