Paul's Stride for Stroke!

Stride For Stroke · 21 August 2020
Greetings! For the many of you who know me, you will be aware that in November 2019, I suffered a brain stem stroke and was given only a 20% chance of survival, due to the clot blocking blood flow in the main artery at the base of my brain. Remarkably, I survived and have been able to return home and I live a reasonably independent life. However, as a result of the illness I now have permanent disabilities with my vision, balance and the mobility with my left side. Regrettably, my life has changed significantly. I am no longer able to work and I was discharged from my work - with early retirement on medical grounds - from the Home Office in May 2020, after 31 years of service. I am working hard to set new goals, pertinent to my life as it is now and physical activity is playing a huge part in this. I’d like to take this opportunity to publicly thank The Stroke Association and all other professionals and agencies which have been instrumental in my recovery to date. This is my way of saying “thank you” and giving a little back. I would be grateful for your support.
Words from The Stroke Association: When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. Our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community. With more donations and support from you, we can rebuild even more lives.
My goal:
Paul’s Stride for Stroke
In honour of the 1.2 million stroke survivors, I am looking to complete 1.2 million steps. Starting tomorrow, Friday 21st August 2020, I am looking to complete 10,000 steps a day for 120 days! 👍😊👨🏻🦯 Thank you one and all x
