UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency leads the response to refugee protection across the world. This work relies on donations so thank you for standing with refugees and making their protection possible. UK for UNHCR is the UN Refugee Agency’s national partner for the United Kingdom.

Story

Over the past 5 years Penrith Young Quakers have fund raised to support men, women and children caught in the war in Syria and the ensuing refugee crisis throughout the world. Sadly despite disappearing from the front pages this issue has continued to be a serious humanitarian disaster and elsewhere people such as the Rohingya are in dreadful circumstances.

In order to raise awareness of the awful journeys that many people have had to make across the sea Penrith Young Friends canoed the length of Ullswater on 27th January 2018. The conditions were wild with Force 5 winds gusting to Force 7. We made the journey from Glenridding to Pooley Bridge though conditions required us to portage for 2 miles.

All money we raised goes to the UNHCR and help support the work they undertake with displaced people around the world.

Thank you to all who've given so generously! This page will stay open for a month or so.
