Story
Countless thousands of people escaped through the Pyrenees from Fascist tyranny from 1939-45. The flood gates opened at the end of the Spanish civil war and continued through the Second World War. Ordinary civilians, soldiers, allied airmen and persecuted Jews all made the highly dangerous mountain trek, often having to fight through gruelling, freezing winter conditions. Most were helped in their desperate fight for freedom, often by ordinary French and Belgian citizens who risked their lives. Escape lines were established and betrayal sometimes led to the torture, death or brutal imprisonment in concentration camps of brave people who risked all to help others to be free. Those who stand up for what they believe in continue to face torture, death and imprisonment around the world. They deserve our help. Please help me to help them by donating to Freedom from Torture..
