Story
The charity Beat is close to our family as it supports people with eating disorders to achieve their recovery.
Their goals are similar to our objectives, raising the profile for eating disorder therapy throughout the UK at all ages. Having been on Sky TV with the help of Beat, we are giving back to the charity to support them in their great work.
This is close to our hearts as my sister Fiona has been affected by anorexia nervosa for the past 4 years.
Her treatment as she turned 18 was unacceptable and highlights the huge gap in care for children as they turn 18 and are classified as adults.
For Fiona, the shortage of beds has necessitated her recovery programme in Glasgow, 400 miles from our house for over a year. Despite the phenomenal care, the distance does not make it easy, we are battling to deliver an acceptable transition programme but there is very little on offer through the NHS.
