Friends of Adam Hayward will be navigating UK’s HIGHEST MOUNTAIN (1345 m) “Ben Nevis” raising funds for THE SOPHIE LANCASTER FOUNDATION on SATURDAY 30th July 2022

Team members will also include Adam’s friends across the music industry and already dozens of people have pledged their help including former Kerrang! Radio Presenter and radio plugging mentor Emma ScottMainstage Design, Overdrive and Devolution Magazine
and we are delighted to announce that STONEDEAD FESTIVAL will sponsor the official team member shirts.

Unfortunately Adam himself had to pull out and reschedule a few weeks ago due to ill health but has always had this to say......

“Every day we are receiving more and more pledges of support in our efforts and it is amazing to see everyone pitching in; even those who are not coming are giving us their services and not asking for anything in return. There are just a few more names I would love to add to the list, those people who I believe would be great for the fundraising effort but also beneficial for our physical and mental health fitness and adding to the positive mindset of the team”.

Raising funds and capitalising on the positivity of the recently successful DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL 2021 Pilot Adam felt that this was a time to invoke a positive change in the wake of the global pandemic crisis.

“This is a real moment for real change, we’re still suffering under the threat of COVID 19 daily and this is affecting people in all sorts of ways, causing conflict and focusing our energy on the differences between us. What I want to see is the global community seeking positive change starting from the ground up. For me, those changes come from resetting my attitude toward my physical and mental health, creating a can-do mindset for myself, family and friends, and in terms of the wider community acceptance and healing has to be the answer, beginning with education in schools and colleges and as adults through positive activism".

That is why from the beginning THE SOPHIE LANCASTER FOUNDATION plays a key role in educating young people toward the freedom of acceptance, embracing the differences in people rather than isolation and persecution. We have a responsibility as humans to give our kids the best grounding and once they are free of prejudice and no longer grasp the idea of judging and causing violence toward people different from them, we can then focus on the things that do
matter, health, poverty, and hunger as examples”.

A few years ago, the summit of MOUNT SNOWDON called and Adam responded to the challenge and began to feel the positive physical and mental health effects of his efforts. However, beyond this he began to decline, his mental health took in his own words “a nosedive”.

“My first mistake, on reflection was that I didn’t continue after I came off that first mountain. I was physically in the best shape I’d been in years and mentally I was focused on the task and fundraising. As soon as it was over my mental health took a tumble and with that so did my physical, putting on all the weight I had lost and them some and spiraling into a depression in which, at the time I saw no way out, the darkest abyss possible. Only now do I recognise my need to keep
challenging myself, setting bigger goals and ambitions. This has such a profound and positive effect on me I feel the absolute need to show others what can be achieved, I buzz off other people’s energy and I want them to buzz off mine. Never underestimate the power of the positive mindset, it enables ordinary people to do extraordinary things. This begins with education and in the words of the foundation in which we’re supporting we want to stamp out prejudice, hatred, and intolerance everywhere then we can truly begin the healing process”.

About the charity

Following the horrific murder of Sophie Lancaster, her family wanted to ensure a lasting legacy to their beautiful, bright creative daughter and so The Sophie Lancaster Foundation was established and it became a registered charity in 2009. We do this through various means including education.
