Story

Firstly, a huge thank you for visiting our Run2Pegasus sponsorship page.

For those of you who know us, you know we welcome a challenge and will put ourselves out of our comfort zones, especially when we're able to help raise money and awareness for worthy causes!

What we are doing:

We have committed to months of training throughout the bleak winter months to raise money and awareness for a very worthy and noble cause... Helping the brave and selfless individuals who were willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice to protect our way of living and who now need YOUR help!

With the 100th anniversary marking the end of World War 1 and the 75th anniversary of D-Day in June 2019 (the largest seaborne invasion known to man and one of the most impressive feats in history showcasing human courage and resistance against tyranny), we will be undergoing an epic, multi-country 75mile endurance run from Rushton Airfield in Dorset to the legendary Pegasus Bridge in Normandy!!

Needless to say with a distance just shy of 3 back-to-back marathons being ran predominately throughout the night, this is going to be an extreme challenge testing our bodies, mind, and sheer determination.

This event is limited to 181 runners to exactly replicate the "Coup de
Main" group who undertook the operation to seize two vital bridges in Normandy in the opening minutes of D-Day on 6th June 1944.

Each runner will be given a name of one of the men who were on the operation. We are taking this epic challenge on to pay tribute to those brave souls who were the first men on the ground and spearheaded the D-Day operations, whilst also raising money for brave ex-military who need our help today.

On 4th June 2019 we will set off from Tarrant Rushton Airfield in Dorset and make our way into the New Forest and down to Portsmouth, covering 62 miles (100km) in a maximum of 24 hours. However, with the training we're putting in we hope to shave hours off this time!

Once in Portsmouth, we will then board a Ferry to Normandy before making our way along the Caen Canal towpath to Pegasus Bridge, arriving at this iconic spot 75 years on since men of the 2nd battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry began their legendary assault to seize the two bridges and secure a vital road inland for the troops landing on the beaches.

Then on 6th June 2019 we will make our way to the site of another bridge 10 miles away where The Veterans Charity will unveil a plaque dedicated to the men of 22 Platoon who landed there in no4 glider which went off course.

The thirty men of 22 Platoon had a very difficult time trying to reach their objective of Horsa Bridge. They faced intense enemy resistance and flooded fields for almost the whole 10 mile march back to rende-vous with their comrades.

Three men lost their lives during the 24 hours and the platoon, together with approx 15 other troops who they gathered along the way, made it to Ranville on 7th June with several casualties.
