When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. Our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community.

Story

Some of you will know this and others won’t but on the 23rd May 2017 I suffered a ischemic stroke at the age of 27.

All that know me well will know that I'm a fighter with dogged determination and with the incredible support of my husband and family, my recovery has been absolutely amazing and greater than I thought possible post stroke. I still suffer from fatigue but I'm learning my limits and doing it all with a big smile on my face!

One thing I've learnt is that we're not invincible and your life can be changed at any moment and I honestly wake up every day feeling thankful that I'm alive - so it really is time to enjoy the ride (100)!!

I will be riding the 100 miles with my fantastic Dad (Robin Dews) and amazing sister (Anna Dews) for the Stroke Association and to raise awareness of strokes in young people.
