We raise money to help our babies and their families

Story

The Scottish Sea Farms' Triathlon Festival is back for a third year, bringing together staff, loved ones, customers and suppliers for a fun, family day out with health and wellbeing at its heart.

It's also a great opportunity to raise money for good causes and this year we'll be swimming, cycling and running in aid of the Princess Royal Maternity Baby Fund.

It's a cause very close to our hearts here at Scottish Sea Farms as, for over three months now, the hospital team have delivered specialist care to Oran Keenan, son of Farm Manager Michael Keenan and his wife Elissa, who was born at just 26 weeks weighing 2lb 7oz. It's down to this care skill and dedication of the hospital team that little Oran, now 10lbs, recently made it home to join his sisters and brother.

Says Michael: "At first, Oran looked to be a miracle baby with all his key functions working well.  Then, on Hogmanay, our worst nightmare happened as his lungs collapsed and on three occasions we were told to prepare for the worst. The care Oran received was truly inspiring. He was put on a ventilator, steroids and morphine, and the nurses, consultants and doctors don't seem to work shifts or forget about things when they go home. They phone and text all day and night asking about the babies they care for. When I told them the news about our Triathlon fundraising, some of the nurses burst into tears - they said it felt amazing that people appreciate what they do."

To help the nursing team help more families like the Keenans, we're on a mission to buy a new cerebral function monitor. Costing £20,419, this key item will mean that early babies who have suffered from brain asphyxia or seizures can be quickly assessed and the best course of treatment determined without delay.

Up for the challenge? Then let's get training and fundraising, and we'll see you on Sunday 26 May 2019 at the University of Stirling campus.

Love,

Team Triathlon

About the charity

The PRM baby fund is wholly dedicated to the PRM neonatal unit, in Glasgow. We buy equipment, and support projects, that directly help the babies looked after on our unit. Charitable donations form a large part of this extra care.
