I was involved in an accident at work at Falmouth Docks on 20th August 2014. I was crushed by a large steel rack and flat bars that were stored on the rack. That day changed my life.
I broke my pelvis, arm, a vertebra in my back and suffered a catastrophic open fracture to my leg. I have metal plates in my pelvis, leg, arm and a metal pin in my big toe. I had 6 operations in total including a skin graft on the open fracture on my leg plus 2 blood transfusions.
I spent 18 days at Derriford Hospital on Shaugh Ward before spending time in 2 other local hospitals, Treliske & Falmouth. I was in hospital and bed bound for 3 months.
I was lucky, Derriford Hospital saved my life and saved my leg from being amputated thanks to the amazing Orthopaedic team.
I was told it was highly unlikely that I would ever run again. It is nearly 4 years since the accident and I have taught myself, with the help of Diarmuid from The Devery Practice, to begin to run again.
Please can you donate and help me raise £1800? I spent 18 days at Derriford and want to raise £100 for each day I was there.
I would love to be able to do something positive and give something back to the hospital. I am determined to complete the 10k which is just over 6 miles in October.
Derriford is the South West Trauma centre and although it is not our local hospital, should you, your family or friends ever be involved in a life threatening trauma then Derriford is where you will go.
