Story
This October I am taking on the challenge of a night-time, I will be staying up from 8pm to 8am, joining thousands of others across the country and going one night without sleep for homeless young people.
I will be aiming to keep cycling for the full extent of this time, because I do too many all-nighters already, so 12 hours on a bike will add a layer of difficulty and hopefully prompt more people to sponsor me (I'll be needing motivation!) At the end of these twelve hours, I will be able to go home to my own bed, which is not possible for homeless young people in the UK, and something Centrepoint is working to change.
I am increasingly conscious of the difficulties of being homeless during the coronavirus pandemic and as fewer and fewer people are prepared to have those small interactions which could make all the difference.
STAY:UP raises money to help change the story for thousands of homeless 16-25 year olds in the UK. 110,000 young people experience homelessness every year and the effects can be devastating.
Centrepoint supports young people to recover their health and find a job and home of their own. Their approach works and 88% of those they work with leave Centrepoint positively.
Please sponsor me as much as you can because although I'm spending just one night outside of my comfort zone, homeless young people will have faced much worse.
Please sponsor me as much as you can! Twelve hours cycling out in the dark will be hard and I'll be needing motivation, but it's still nowhere close to what homeless young people face every day.
