In April 2013 I had a Brain Tumour removed successfully by neurosurgeons at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. However, my consultant oncologist gave me the devastating news that I had stage 4 secondary malignant melanoma with an average life expectancy of just 6 months! He did go on to add that as I had no other underlying issues that they should "be able to keep me going a good few years yet"......As a result of this I was referred, by my GP in Worcester, to St Richards Hospice on April 13th 2013.

Over the last 4 years they have given me, personally, such wonderful, amazing and caring support. Especially in the early months when I was so uncertain about what lay ahead in terms of treatments and further health issues to come. This care and support I know they have given to many others, including friends of my own family.

In January 2017 I felt well enough not to need palliative care support at this time - knowing that I can be referred back at any time in the future should the need arise which is reassuring to know. I vowed to raise money to thank and support  St Richard's Hospice Charity by running 2 Half-Marathons this year on July 9th in Bath and Sept 17th in Worcester. I've never ran more than 10 k before so began following a Half Marathon Training Plan with a local running group happy feet fitness has been of great help. Training going well but health issues keep cropping up to try and spoil the party! However, with your support to reach my target I am determined that I will complete both runs to prove that cancer doesn't have to stop you from achieving what you want to do.
