Story

Hi,  I'm taking on the huge challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro on 11 October 2022.

It's going to be almost definitely the biggest physical and mental challenge I've ever attempted.

Some facts about the Mountain and the Climb:

Mount Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano in Tanzania.

It has three volcanic cones: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira.

It is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest single free-standing mountain above sea level in the world: 5,895 metres (19,341 ft) above sea level and about 4,900 metres (16,100 ft) above its plateau base.

It is one of the seven summits of the world.

It is the highest volcano in Africa and the Eastern Hemisphere.

There are many routes up the Mountain, we are taking an 8 day route similar to the "Shira route".

There is only 50% oxygen at the top and temperatures can drop to -20 Deg C. The altitiude is the biggest risk to sucess and only and estimated 50% of people who attempt, succeed.

The route will take use through many environments from the Bushland and Rainforest, to the heath, Alpine Desert and then onto the Arctic Zone. It's like going from the equator to Antarctic in one climb!

This is a 100% self funded expedition and all proceeds from this page will be going to my chosen Charity which is something close to a lot of people's hearts, Animal Welfare.

The charity:

Warrington Animal Welfare (WAW) A community focused non-profit organisation caring for abandoned, abused and unwanted domestic animals. Caring for all pets

I personally visited the place and they are doing a great job, working to capacity and as with a lot of charities, needing funds to keep their charity going.

About the charity

Warrington Animal Welfare is a rehoming & neutering charity which strives tirelessly to reduce the amount of abandoned or stray animals in Warrington and the surrounding areas. We promote responsible pet ownership, neutering and microchipping for pets, and by rehoming animals at our rescue centre.
