Story

Hello

My name is David Bowie and I live in Sheffield.

I was diagnosed in 2018 with Mitral valve prolapse and severe regurgitation and needed open heart surgery. I also had 2 bouts of Endocarditis which is a bacterial infection of the heart and spent 38 days in the Hallamshire and Northern General Hospitals in Sheffield between September and December last year.

The operation undertaken in November was successful thanks to Mr Hunter the cardiovascular surgeon and his team.

I cannot thank the Drs and nurses enough for their patience, help and above all their medical skills that have got me back to near full health. The NHS is a god send to all of us, my treatment would have cost over £30,000 if it wasn't for them.

Whilst in hospital I noticed the nurses who work 12 hour shifts facing constant demands and abuse from ungrateful patients and machines that didn't work properly. I thought about how to raise money for the hospitals and decided to enter a rally from France to Venice and I will be joined on this by my step son Ashley.
