Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On the 17th September, ‘Team Fletcher’ are embarking on a 2 day 120 mile bike ride to raise money for the British Heart Foundation in memory of our Dad / Brother / Uncle.

James Henry Fletcher (Jim) passed away on the 29th July 1993 whilst enjoying an evening bike ride with his eldest son, Andrew.  This year would have been Jim’s 75th birthday so we wanted to mark that by doing something as a family in his memory and to support a charity close to our hearts.

Jim’s two sons Andrew and Christopher, Jim’s younger brother Peter and Jim’s nephew Philip will be setting off from Plainspot Road in Brinsley (where Jim lived at the time of his death), cycling to Woodfield Road in Broxtowe where Jim lived in his younger days with his brother Peter and parents Hilda and Philip.  We will then be heading into Derbyshire via Strelley, Cossall, Horsley Woodhouse, Holbrook, and will be cycling through some of the places that Jim liked to visit in Derbyshire – Carsington, Tissington, Hartington to name just a few. We will be having an overnight stop in Chapel-en-le-Frith on the Saturday.

Day 2 will see us cycle from Chapel-en-le-Frith across to Tideswell and through Eyam which is one of the places Jim worked as an architect.  We will then pass through the Chatsworth Estate, down to Matlock, Matlock Bath, Cromford, Crich, and then have a final stop off at the Midland Railway Centre Swanwick Junction which is somewhere Jim enjoyed visiting frequently with his sons.  We will be arriving back in Brinsley on the Sunday evening.

We appreciate the financial pressures everyone is battling at the moment, but if anyone would like to donate to the British Heart Foundation it would be greatly appreciated and will keep us going, especially as we battle some of the steep climbs our route will no doubt encounter.

Thank you xx
