Story

On the 4th September 2021 this years handcycling challenge starts in Stirling and covers 1000 miles in 10 days......maybe the toughest route todate

Team Paddison was established by Andrew Paddison to attempt handcycling challenges in order to find his physical and mental limit, to show whatever your physical limitations, there should be no barriers but importantly to raise money for charity.

Andrew has no right leg, 2 short arms, crooked hands and fingers due to Thalidomide, a drug prescribed to pregnant women in the late 1950 and early 60's, however this hasn't been a barrier to living life to the max. If you wish further info on Andrew, please visit Team Paddison FB page .

Andrew is physically unable to get on and off his adapted handbike without assistance, hence the need for a Team when handcycling.

This year's Team members to support Andrew are Clare Liley,  Helen Millier, Steve Evans and Alun Roberts,  all accomplished cyclists in their own right.

This year's challenge is to handcycle round the Heart of Scotland, covering 1000 miles in 10 days with over 65000 ft of climbing.  If anyone knows Scotland, the terrain, the roads, the weather and the midges are all there to make on average 100 miles a day for 10 consecutive days an extremely tough test of physical and mental resolve.

THIS MOST PROBABLY IS THE TOUGHEST CHALLENGE ANDREW HAS ATTEMPTED.

Please follow the Team on their dedicated Team Paddison FB and Andrew Paddison-Team Paddison twiiter page for regular updates.

The charity we have chosen is Place2Be.

It's important to recognise the negative side effects of social media on the young, the impact of Covid and an unstable home life, to name a few, that has the potential to cause mental health issues on children .

One in six children and young people now have a diagnosable mental health issue. That’s five children in every classroom with a condition like depression or anxiety. Place2Be is the UK's leading school-based mental health charity, providing support to children, families and school-based staff when they need it most. Please help me support Place2Be’s vital work, and together we can make a real difference to children's mental health and ensure that children don’t have to face mental health problems alone.
