A few months after my 53 mile run last year I suffered a heart attack caused by a nasty virus which resulted having Myocarditis. Thankfully I have had the all clear now but this postponed me raising further awareness and funds for my charity, Debra. We’ve also had a new baby boy called Harris Ralph. We have yet to see if he also has EB. 🤞🏻
So the challenge this time is called Everesting or vEveresting which is what I shall be attempting. The idea is you ride repeats of the same hill until you reach the height of Mount Everest at 8848 metres or 29,030 feet in one activity with no sleep. Virtual Everesting is done on a static bike trainer connected to a virtual world called Zwift. Inside Zwift is a Island with a carbon copy of the famous climb in France, Alpe d’Huez. It is this hill I have stupidly chosen. I will have to ride this hill which has an average gradient of 8.1% and is 8.6 miles long 8.5 times which is a total of 130 miles taking around 20 hours.
This is my hobby and it’s not real I hear you say. Trust me this will be by miles the hardest thing I’ve ever done on a bike in one single activity. As for the virtuality side of it my trainer mimics the real gradient of the climb so you feel every meter of climbing and every mile of distance. To date there’s only around 3000 successful Everesters. I’ve included some links below to give more insight.
