Pancreatic Cancer Action is the only UK charity dedicated to saving lives through early diagnosis. Pancreatic cancer is the 5th biggest cancer killer and the 10th most common cancer in the UK. Your support means we can continue to raise awareness of the symptoms to ensure early diagnosis.

Story

Thank you for looking at our page.  Even if you cannot donate, please read our story.  It might one day save a life.

We're doing this in loving memory of our dad who sadly lost his life to pancreatic cancer on August 25th 2016, exactly 2 months after receiving his diagnosis on June 25th.

Since early 2016, Dad (Max to those that knew him)  had indigestion.  It wasn't going away, but it was only indigestion, nothing to worry about.
Within weeks, he was in pain.  Not only in his stomach but also his back. The kind of pain that meant he couldn't stand up straight, he couldn't eat or sleep, but it was only indigestion, nothing to worry about.
Within a few months, he was losing weight, serious amounts of weight, but it was only indigestion, nothing to worry about.

Anyone that knew Max, knows that he was the life and soul of any party. When he started being in too much pain and discomfort to do anything that involved leaving the house, we knew something was seriously wrong. Countless trips to his GP, hospital consultants, A and E, were all fruitless.  Because it was just indigestion and nothing to worry about.

We knew he was ill, but we didn't know the signs of pancreatic cancer.
We didn't know that the only chance of survival is early diagnosis.
We didn't know that 95% of the 9000 people diagnosed with the disease every year, will die within 6 months of receiving their diagnosis.
We didn't know that pancreatic cancer has the worst survival rates of all cancers.
We didn't know that survival rates have not improved in the last 50 years.
We didn't know that the UK has the worst survival rates in the whole of Europe.
We didn't know that despite these facts, less that 1% of all cancer research funding is spent on pancreatic cancer.

We do now.  We don't want you to have to learn the facts the same way we did.
Please learn the symptoms, Don't ignore them if you or someone you love has them.  Don't take a diagnosis of "there's nothing wrong" or "it's indigestion" if you don't believe it to be true.
Misdiagnosis is a huge part of the problem with this type of cancer. If you have any doubt, don't settle with the first doctors opinion. Don't even settle for the second, or third.  If you have any of these symptoms and they are not being helped with the prescribed medication, push for further investigations.

Now, having said all that, we're going to put my brothers, and our cousin*, through copious amounts of pain and embarrassment, to raise some money to try and improve all the depressing statistics I've mentioned above.  Saturday 26th November Kenny, Ian, and Benji are going to have their legs waxed, in the Tut 'n' Shive, for all to see.  Come along, watch them squirm, if you donate a nice chunk of wonga, we might even let you have a pull at a strip yourself!
*new recruit, Dan 'from the Tut' has offered his legs too!
If you can, please give generously, but even if you cant, please learn the signs (see photo below), it might help save a life.

Thank you!
