Story
'Let's run a Half Marathon before we're 50' says Kat; the lady who first got me to agree to go running.... after several G & T's one New Year!
I wasn't convinced that I could do it to be honest! At that point I was struggling to run 3 miles never mind 13 and it was only a couple of weeks since Justin had died, and my head was all over the place.
3 months on and several early Sunday morning runs later, my running partner Allison and I hit 10 miles and decided to enter the Edinburgh Half Marathon. To make our run, and those aches and pains really count, we've decided to make it a charity run to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research in memory of Justin.
Justin lost his battle with an aggressive brain tumour in December 2021 at the age of 48. He fought bravely for almost a year whilst his body was ravaged with the effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy; not forgetting the considerable amounts of medication he had to take daily to combat the pain, any infections and the side effects of the brain tumour. Justin's death has hit us all hard, and he has left a huge hole in our lives; especially in the lives of our 2 sons Charlie and Jack who will grow up without their beloved dad.
Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 12% of those diagnosed with a brain tumour survive beyond 5 years.
Please support Allison and I in our challenge to run a Half Marathon and also to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research, as they try to find a cure for this devastating disease.
