Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I’ve never run more than about 30km in one go before, but in October I’ll be running the London Marathon to raise money for the British Legion. Pretty terrified to be honest.
After the last twelve months spent mostly baking and cooking, I’ve decided I should try and do something physically challenging - and for a cause that I think is very important.
My local branch of the British Legion found 2020 a very difficult year, with social distancing making it especially tricky to raise money. So rather than help out selling poppies, a sponsored run is the plan for 2021. British legion supports some of the most vulnerable in society, including many older veterans. These are incredibly brave men and women who have put their lives on the line to protect our lives and freedoms. Were there a war, I’m afraid I’d probably be a conscientious objector, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have an enormous amount of respect for those who serve.
Having grown up to horrific stories of past conflicts, including those of my godfather who was in the navy in the 1940s, and my grandfather who lived through “The Troubles”, I hope that one day wars will be relegated to history. But until then, we have to support all those who have experienced such terror.
