The Wagtail Wheelers are riding again! This time we are fundraising in memory of our dear friend, and fellow cyclist, Trina.

Trina was a founder member of The Wagtail Wheelers accompanying ALL of our cycle trips including the important fundraising ones: Coast to Coast 2010, The Way of the Roses 2012, and Newcastle to Edinburgh 2015. She contributed enormously to the team helping raise a lot of money for the particular charities close to our hearts.

Sadly, last spring, Trina was diagnosed with Sarcoma. Sarcomas are cancers that develop in muscle, bone, nerves, cartilage, tendons, blood vessels and fatty fibrous tissues. They can affect almost any part of the body on the inside or the outside.

We started planning our charity cycle for Sarcoma UK with Trina whilst she was undergoing chemotherapy treatment. She wanted to be
involved and was adamant she would be joining us in May to cycle from Gretna Green to Arkholme Village Green. Her positive outlook and courageous attitude made us hope that she would be well enough to carry out this three day challenge.

On 30 November Trina lost her brave fight against this disease, surrounded by those she loved. Eleven members of The Wagtail Wheelers, inspired by her positivity, are determined to finish what we started planning with Trina only a few months ago. Every single one of us funds our own transport, food and overnight costs during the event so any amount you can donate will go straight to Sarcoma UK.

We are starting our cycle challenge in Gretna Green on Thursday 17 May covering a moderate distance of 39 miles to Haltwistle. Our second day will be the most strenuous cycling approximately 60 miles over the fells and moors to Kirkby Stephen where we will be met by as many as possible to ride with us the following day into Arkholme, on Saturday 19 May where, later on that evening, we will be holding a fantastic fun-filled fundraiser at Arkholme Village Hall.

Sarcoma is very rare and much more needs to be done to fully understand how these cancers develop and how best to diagnose and treat them. Sarcoma UK raises funds in order to improve the lives of those affected by the cancers. Hopefully by giving to this excellent cause we can help with the ongoing research into this devastating disease.
