Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page and big thanks to 'Emmerdale' and 'The Other Planet' for supporting us practically in this challenge.
Driving patients to hospital, providing Yorkshire's first mobile chemotherapy unit, respite for patients, funding research are just a few of the things York Against Cancer do in England's finest County. Find out more at www.yorkagainstcancer.org.uk
We started off as an unlucky thirteen, but the rigours of training, family life and can't-be-arsed-itis have left us as a team of nine. (Ten, if you count Westo who'll be driving the van whilst chomping on Ginsters). With bike bits and bodies snapping left, right and centre it might end up as one man and his Chopper taking part in this https://www.opencycling.com/wales-in-a-day/ but here are our current velo-ing virtuosos.
ALEX: Hi I'm Alex, currently working in the AD department for Emmerdale - I love a good challenge and when I heard about this I just couldn't pass it up. My current longest ride stands just the wrong side of 100 miles so this should be interesting to say the least! Can't wait
ANDY: I work as a Colourist on Emmerdale. ..I like a challenge! I like Cycling. I like leeks. I like dragons. So lets do Wales in a day! and raise a bob or two for York against cancer. Thanks your the support.
CHARLIE: My third cycling challenge with the Emmerdale cycling team. I balance out the youth and enthusiasm of the team with age and ... errr.
CHRIS: I’m Chris, Online Editor for Emmerdale and I’m looking forward to seeing all of the Welsh countryside by bike; while raising money for a great cause.
DEANO: I am a sound supervisor on the nation’s No.1 soap –Emmerdale. I am father to 7 children and because that isn’t challenging enough, I agreed to do this 185 mile bike ride.
IAN: I am the props and scenes supervisor for Emmerdale. When Deano invited me to join the team I couldn’t resist the challenge or opportunity to raise money for a good cause. However he didn’t actually tell me straight away it was 185 miles and 4500 metres of climbing in one day but in for a penny!
MARK: I am a project manager for National Grid who likes to go
out cycling now and again. So when a friend asked if I wanted to go for a bike ride in Wales I agreed. How hard can it be I thought.... When he told me it was 185miles with 14,000ft of climbing I thought we must be going for the week. Well, now I'm about to find out if this crazy distance can be done in. One. Day. Yep, you heard right. ONE Day!
TOM: I’m a Dubbing Mixer on Emmerdale. I did the 150 mile
C2C ride back in 2015 and it’s taken me 3 years to forget the pain! This time I’m doing it for York Against Cancer which will make all the pain worth it. Thanks for your support!
TONY: I play Bob off Emmerdale. I’ve been preparing for this Gran Fondo (Big Ride) by bashing the area just behind my genitals with a lead pipe, that and lots of hills, lots and lots of hills. Training for this has
been challenging but rewarding and I’m looking forward to a sleepless night in Chepstow thrashing around in a hostel bed with quad cramps. Did I mention the hills?
