Story
I'm raising funds for my local RNLI station in Tenby to help towards any new kit they require to keep them safe at sea while they aid other seafarers in danger.
To make it a bit more interesting I will be completing triathlon 20k Cycle and 5k Run in my yellow wellies! so keep a look out for me
As a skipper of a commercial boat I have the greatest respect for the sea and know how quickly it can all go wrong, and when it does all go wrong the RNLI lifeboat men are the 1st to assist, this is why I have chosen to donate all money raised to my local station.
-Where are you from? Saundersfoot, Pembs.
-What are you raising money for? Tenby RNLI Lifeboat Station.
-Why Triathlon? Its a local event for me.
-Is this your first Triathlon? I completed it last year and really enjoyed it! Finished O/A: 180/355 going through the transitions at a very leisurely pace (see results list for times). last year I completed the triathlon swim in a borrowed wetsuit, then completed the bike on a old 70’s raleigh road bike with the gear shifters on the frame (£80.00), and then the run wearing my 5 year old (sports direct) running shoes, all while wearing some old shorts and a t-shirt (no lycra, or sports tops). This year I have bought a second hand wetsuit needing a easy repair (£30), i’v bought myself a new 70’s Raleigh road bike with the shifters on the frame again (£30.00), I work in yellow wellies anyway so no need to splash out on new running shoes. This year I will be completing the bike and run wearing a RNLI Lifeboat branded top he help me stand out!
-A lot of people choose to raise money for a range of charities, what made you choose yours? Because I am always so active on or around the sea I feel it is only natural to donate to the RNLI as if I was to ever need any assistance they would be the first people to come to my aid, no matter what the weather or conditions. I work as a commercial skipper over the summer months so I know how quickly the sea state can change, Personally I have been in some very adverse conditions so I have the greatest respect for the sea. I have recently returned from a yacht delivery sailing for 11 days from Lawrenny to Benalmádena, the trip was a big eye opener because we lost all power half way across the bay of biscay and had to navigate the old school way for 30hours, day and night! I am a Marine Engineer by trade.
-Why are you choosing to do it in yellow wellies? To make it more of a challenge, stand out from the other competitors while competing and there is also a link to the Lifeboat men
-How have you been training for this challenge? I didn’t train last year and finished it well within the cut off time. I’m not training this year also to make it more of a challenge
-Do you have a target amount that you would like to raise? I set out to raise £250 and I’m already half way there, I would love to raise £350.
