Yvonne Hurst Information
I am Yvonne Hurst a retired nurse who worked on the Neonatal unit for 24 years at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, I loved my job so much that I came out of retirement and returned as their Housekeeper. My job role involves, cleaning and assembling incubators, ventilators and other essential equipment, I also look after the mum’s and their families and provide support for the nurses by doing pharmacy runs etc. I absolutely love my job.
The reason I entered Strictly NHS was firstly to help raise funds and create awareness for this great cause. Also, when I saw it advertised, I thought ‘wow’ what an opportunity a lifelong dream of mine had always been to dance on strictly, I watched it religiously on the TV with my husband Steve and I used to say to him all the time, “I would love to be a contestant on there, but unfortunately its only for celebrities”! I am not a trained dancer, but I am always the first on the dance floor at any party or function, always being told I was a good dancer and can hold a move or two.
My Husband would be so proud of me, Steve sadly passed away last year from the awful ‘Motor Neurone disease ‘of which I nursed him for 3 years. So being Chosen as one of the last 12 to dance at the Empress Ballroom in my hometown, has given me a massive lift after such sad time and then with COVID, it will bring joy to all.
I cannot wait to start training with my professional, watch this space … and …. KEEP DANCING 😊
