My story

 

Dear Friends and Family,

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.  I have a much fuller letter below that outlines the reasons for my challenge, but here is the quick version...The 300km cycle challenge that lies ahead is my way of giving something back.  I feel so lucky to have my twins Jake and Poppy and my aim is to raise as much money as possible towards much needed research which will help other women and babies.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

I am writing to ask for your support for a major challenge I am undertaking to raise funds to improve the health of women and babies worldwide. As many of you know we started trying for a baby in 2005 and subsequently discovered that we could not have a baby naturally. We then commenced IVF and thanks to the amazing treatment we received we now have our beautiful Jake and Poppy. I decided to embark on this challenge as I wanted to give something back. I am and always will be eternally grateful for my little angels and this is my way of saying thank you.

In October 2009 I will join Professor Robert Winston for Cycle Jordan, the 9th women-only challenge to fund groundbreaking medical research work at the Wolfson and Weston Research Centre for Family Health in London. I will be cycling some 300 kms through the desert and have a target of raising £5000.

More than 1,000 women from across the UK have already helped Professor Winston raise over £1.5 million for the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Trust's Women for Women fund by taking part on cycling challenges around the world. Women for Women raises funds to train women scientists and clinicians to work at the centre, empowering more women to lead in this field. They will work to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a range of devastating conditions which cause genetic diseases, miscarriage, infertility, cancer and brain damage. The fundamental aim is to improve women's health and to ensure that more women have a normal pregnancy with a healthy baby.

With up to 250 babies dying every week in the UK from complications during pregnancy, their work has never been so essential for women and babies nationwide.

If you can help by making a donation I would be so grateful and if you would like to send to any of your friends and family that you think would also be interested in sponsoring me that would be fantastic. Just think if you sent this to five people and they did the same, I'd raise my target for this worthy cause in no time!
