At the beginning of March we are planning to climb Mount Kilimanjaro - yes, that is the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895m and the tallest free-standing mountain IN THE WORLD...gulp!
Why?! - At the beginning of February, we'll be doing some volunteer work at the Amani Children's Home in Moshi, Tanzania, helping to support the orphaned and abandoned children that they provide care for.
Amani is an inspirational charity that is dedicated in providing a place for homeless children to heal, grow, and learn. The goals of Amani are not only to provide long-term care for the children, but also to reunite them with their relatives when possible, and to supply their families with the means to be self-sustainable.
Please please sponsor us with whatever you can - 50p, the price of a drink, or more! Here's an idea of how it will help:
- 12 pounds will feed a child for one month; - 28 pounds will provide medical care for a child for a year; - 80 pounds will pay for a child to go to school for a year; - $400 will send an older child to vocational school to enable them to learn a profession and support themselves throughout adulthood.
We can all help secure a child's future!
As an added incentive, Gabriel will SHAVE HIS HAIR if we manage to raise 1000 pounds or more - now that would be worth seeing!! Photos will of course be provided as proof...if the total is reached!
Plus, the local Kichagga name for Kilimanjaro means 'impossible to conquer' - climbing Kilimanjaro will be quite something from the girl who usually gets out of breath climbing stairs at home!
It's really easy to donate using this website. It's safe to use and Amani receive the money immediately, and if you are a UK tax-payer an extra 28% in tax will be added on to the amount you donate.
