G&T Manchester have decided to take part in the Great Manchester 10K run (24 of us to be exact). We are all currently in extensive training(!) and have set ourselves targets in order to run the 10K in the best possible time whilst raising money for the Teenage and Young Adults Ward at The Christie Hospital. This will be a big challenge as some staff haven't seen a pair of trainers in a very long time!

We all wanted to unite and show support to one of our colleagues Jo Allen whose son Thomas has been diagnosed with testicular cancer at the age of 23 and is currently undergoing intensive treatment whilst being very well looked after on the TYA ward. The specialised care that the staff offers to all young patients is outstanding and helps enormously at a very difficult time in their young lives.   

The TYA ward provides care for patients aged 16-24 who are diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia at The Christie Hospital. We want to raise money for this ward so that it can be spent on providing comfort, engagement and most importantly a positive frame of mind for the patients and families receiving treatment. The money can help with complementary therapies, gym sessions, music, workshops, activities and events - anything at all which improves their stay. 

We can't begin to imagine what Jo and her family are going through but hopefully Thomas will be lifted by our support and the photo's of his mum completely knackered after the run!
