Story

Hi.... my name is Gareth. I am 11 years old and go to Chiltern Edge School in Reading. A couple of my hobbies include playing for Abbey Rugby Club u-12's and I am also an active member of Caversham Judo Club.

On Sunday 20th March 2011 starting at 08.30, I will be taking part in the Reading Green Park Challenge. I will be running 2.8 kms (that is 1.75 miles for you older folk!!!!) to raise badly needed funds for Leukaemia Busters. I ran the same event last year with my sister, Sophie. We covered the course in 14 mins. 20 secs. raising around £400.00 so my goal this year is to break 14 mins and raise as much money as I can.

Ok so why am I doing it!!!!!. A friend of my Mum & Dad's... Chris Williams, had Leukaemia years ago and thanks to the work of this charity and following a bone marrow transplant Chris is now fully fit. To pay back for some of that care, raise a substantial amount of money and heighten the public awareness of the charity, Chris vowed to set himself the "Ultimate Goal" and make a summit attempt on Mount Everest in a couple of years time.

So far for his lead up to the "main event" he has already trekked to Everest Base Camp, trained in the Alps and staged an event in a shopping centre over 2.5 days, where he "stepped up" 30,299 times , on an 11.5 inch step (the eqivalent height of Everest) whilst wearing a 20kgms back pack all as part of his training. For the full story please visit Chris' web site www.chrisgwilliams.co.uk

I agreed to do the run this year on the proviso Chris ran with me. He has also said as part of his training he will complete the run carrying his 20kg back pack.

Leukaemia Busters is soley funded by the generosity of the public and recieves no government finance whatsoever so any donation you make will be greatly appreciated. All the money goes to research and treatments for incurable forms of Leukamia.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Your donations and messages of support would be hugely appreciated.
