Help Needed to Raise £2000 or more!
Three years ago I didn't know what the prostate gland was or did. That was until my Step Father had to have a catheter fitted due to an enlarged prostate. Last year my Father was diagnosed with Prostate cancer. After reading more about this I was amazed at how common this disease was, yet I had never heard of it. He underwent a course of radio therapy and has been successfully treated.
Thanks Derbyshire City Hospital for all your help. Do yourself a favour and spend a few minutes reading about this condition, its symptoms and causes. Click here for further info on the "man gland".
This is my first Marathon so I am a little apprehensive as to what to expect.
I am following a 14 week training schedule with on average 5 runs a week. I will cover 470 miles during my training with the longest distance I run before the marathon being 20 miles
.
I would like to finish it in a time of 4 hours so I won't be challenging Paula just yet. Hopefully I will still be able to walk afterwards as well.
Distance covered so far in training 500 Miles!!!. The hardest being the 13+ cross country miles in the Charnwood Hills Race. It was freezing and hard on my feet.
I have completed a training run in Edinburgh here, Blackpool here.
The longest so far being 20 miles along the Grand Union Canal. On the 9th of March I completed the Ashby 20 mles race in 2 hours and 56 minutes. I'm on schedule to complete in the 4 hours I want.
I have now used 3 metres of band aid sticking plasters to protect my nipples. Think of lemon zest and cheese grater and you''ll know where I'm coming from.
4:15:28. Well I did it! It was hard but worth it for the atmosphere alone. Thanks to everyone who sponsored me.
Please dig deep and sponsor me. I need to raise at least £2000 for The Prostate Cancer Charity. All sponsorship is gratefully received so please spare a little (or a lot of) money for a good cause.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The charity will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now! If you prefer to sponsor me in a more traditional way drop me an email to gareth.wilkins@ntlworld.com and I'll get a form to you.
Many thanks for your support.
