Channel Relay swim · 11 July 2010

We are a world-leading charity at the forefront of Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS). We are an independent charity. It costs over £15.2M a year to sustain our world-leading, cutting edge, innovative service and amazingly 86% comes from the incredible generosity of our supporters.

Made it !!! In almost perfect conditions we made it across the channel on Friday 9th July in a time of 11h 21min. Landing at Cap Gris Nez before 2000. Only 2 of the 4 boats with swimmers made it across. Our team called the flying doctors hope to raise £3000 for the air ambulance. Once again thanks for all the generous donations and messages of support. Every penny of the money will go to the charity. Thanks again for helping them and helping me. GB

Still waiting for confirmation of start time. Hoping to go on Friday 9th July

Updated 8.7.10

It now looks as if we may be going on Friday 9th July, in the morning. We are awaiting official confirmation, but the conditions look really good. Thanks so much to all who have supported me in this quest. We will be supported by a boat called Pace Arrow. Sometimes you can track the boats on www.ais-doverstraits.co.uk/ but I'm not sure if our tracker will be functioning.

I will be attempting to swim the channel in a relay along with Phil Sears and David Otteson as part of the Mel Watkins Challenge.

I will be raising money for the Sussex Air Ambulance Trust. The trust has to meet yearly running costs of approximately £1.7million to provide Sussex and neighbouring Surrey with an emergency helicopter service, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. I am hoping to raise £1000 to support the Air Ambulance Trust.

You never know when you or your loved ones might need their vital services. Any donation however large or small is massively appreciated.

Swimming the Channel has always been a desire of mine, and this attempt may push me to go for a solo challenge next time.  As no wetsuits are allowed on the swim, and with temperatures only now starting to get over 14 degrees C; along with jellyfish; sea sickness and strong currents to contend with, this is a major challenge.

You should be able to track the swim online when we set off. Thanks once again.
