Hello all,

As you may already be aware Mountain Rescue is a voluntary service that relies on public donations. We have a garage facility that we rent at the cost of £6000 per year. It provides the team with invaluable equipment and vehicle store and also a team training facility. The rent puts a large dent in our funds and this year I have made it my mission to try and raise enough funds to pay for the rent for the next year.

I intend to do this by gaining sponsorship for taking part in the "Spine Challenger Race". This involves racing 108 miles along the Pennine way from Edale to Hawes in mid January and very likely snow, ice, blizzards and sub-zero temperature at altitudes that reach over 600meters in places. The cut off time is 60 hours. I intend to complete the race in one installment, no sleep or breaks. Wish me luck!

Now the boring bit, little about me. I am a 41 year old health care professional and one of the newer members of the team. After seeing & being involved in the valuable work the team do in many varied support/rescue roles it is a cause I have become very passionate about in a short space of time.

The team carry out the classic mountain rescue operations in the wild and barren areas of the Peak District National Park but also regularly provide their support to other agencies such as GMP (Greater Mnachester Police) & NWAS (North West Ambulance Service). Recently many team members provided their support to the police in the searches for Christopher Brahney and more recently April Jones.

Without public donations the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team would not be able to operate so please support this worthy cause. You will have the gratitude of every member of the team including one very tired & cold middle aged family man.

Lastly I would like to pay thanks to my wonderful family and fellow team members who have supported me in my role as a member of Oldham Mountain Rescue Team. Thank you for your tireless support.

Regards,

Gary.
