Story
Hi Folks.
If you are looking at this you are either friend, family, colleague or client (or just someone rich that we thought we would try and fleece for some sponsorship money!)
You may or may not be aware that Claire, Gary and Amelie (and family) have had a rather horrendous last 5 months, due to the fact that Amelie got very ill in October and we could not find out what was wrong with her. In January Amelie was eventually diagnosed with Coeliacs disease. Since switching her diet she has regained her weight, and is now a fantastically happy, healthy and far too energetic little girl.
Coeliacs disease is an autoimmune disease caused by gluten intolerance. It is a genetic disease and can be diagnosed at any time in life. The most common age of diagnosis is 50, but if you want to make it really awkward and hard to diagnose get it at 20 months - far more fun for Mum and Dad.
Claire and Gary (in a Sauvignon Blanc fueled moment) have decided to help Coeliac UK raise some money to help support other families and individuals like Amelie by running this years Asics 10K London Run.
Coeliac UK:
- Has been supporting people with coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis for nearly 40 years.
- Supports almost 70,000 members.
- Their mission is to improve the lives of people with coeliac disease through support, campaigning and research.
- They raise awareness of coeliac disease amongst the public, the healthcare sector and food manufacturing and food service sectors.
- They network with key opinion formers to improve the rate of diagnosis and management of coeliac disease, as well as improved food labelling and availability of gluten-free foods.
- Their All Party Parliamentary Group works to get coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis on the political agenda, to influence attitudes to coeliac disease within Government.
- They fund vital medical research into all aspects of coeliac disease.
- They are a leading member of the Association of European Coeliac Societies.
- They participate in over 20 external bodies, Government committees and associations.
£10 could produce 10 gluten-free Food and Drink Directories, detailing the gluten- free products of manufacturers around the UK.
£15 could produce 10 information packs for people newly diagnosed with coeliac disease and could help towards the running costs of our helpline.
£200 could support campaigning for better diagnosis and management of coeliac disease, as well as improved food labelling and availability of gluten-free foods.
£250+ could support medical research into all aspects of coeliac disease.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Coeliac UK gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation..
