On Sunday 6th July, Peter Chapman and Gary Reeve will attempt the 103 mile Etape du Tour cycle ride from Pau to Hautacam. The Etape is an annual event, offering 8,000 riders from across the World, the chance to emulate the cycling professionals and complete a stage of the Tour de France. This year the ride follows the same route as stage ten of the official Tour and takes place eight days prior to the professional ride. It features one of the most infamous climbs in the Tour de France, the Col du Tourmalet, a 23 kilometre uphill grind with an average of 7% gradient. The stage finishes with another gruelling climb up to Hautacam which overlooks the pilgrim city of Lourdes. As part of the attempt, Peter and Gary will be raising money for the East Anglian Childrens Hospices (EACH) that supports families throughout their experience of caring for children with life-threatening or life-limiting illnesses at hospices in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. EACH is a registered charity which relies on public support for around 80% of its required income of approximately £4.9 million per year - which is why voluntary income is absolutely vital.

Gary and Peter.
